Mr.Thompson replaces Derrell Coker who retired at the end of 2008 Mr. Thompson joined Silicon Labs in 2000 and served as director of marketing forthe companys wireline products and then director of marketing for the broadcastproducts before being promoted to general manager of broadcast audio products in2007 In the general manager role, Mr. Thompson was responsible for theexpansion of the audio business into the consumer and automotive markets whilegrowing market share in the highly competitive handset business Prior to joining Silicon Labs, Mr Thompson worked at BMC software andFreescale/Motorola. 
During his seven year tenure at Freescale/Motorola, Mr.Thompson held a variety of engineering and marketing roles, all pertaining to8-bit and 16-bit embedded MCUs Mr. Thompsons leadership at Freescale/Motorolaresulted in the development of more efficient and lower cost product testmethodologies, as well as multiple new product introductions in the consumer andautomotive markets. "Our MCU business has grown 30 to 40 percent per year since 2003, and theportfolio has expanded to address close to half of the $5 billion 8-bit MCUmarket," said Necip Sayiner, president and CEO of Silicon Laboratories.
